As the Zhou Dynasty started, it became more angular and stylized in the Bronze Inscription Script. During the Qin Dynasty, in the Seal Script, 九 took on a more square-shaped form with nine lines. The Han Dynasty saw further stylization in the Clerical Script. Finally, in modern Chinese, 九 became simplified and standardized, with nine straight horizontal lines.
