# Play: Research the construction activity (proposed or permitted) at a specific site *This Play is part of the following Playbook: [Monitor existing projects for Unions](/guide/playbook_unions_permits)* ## Research activity at a specific site If you’re in the field and see a project or hear of work being done at a site and you need to know more about it, Chicago Cityscape centralizes information on proposed projects and permits for every job in Chicago. ### Tools to use - [[Property Report overview|Property Report]] - [[Play - Proposed Projects]] - [[Building Permits Browser]] ### Tutorial Here's how to navigate these sections of Chicago Cityscape: [Watch a video tutorial](https://share.getcloudapp.com/ApuDO1en) #### Finding the address within Chicago Cityscape 1. Type the address into the search field on the homepage and select one of the results to open an "Property Report". 2. Use the "Table of Contents" to select the "Proposed Projects" section. 3. After your web browser automatically scrolls down to this section, select the "Load Proposed Projects" button and a map and data table will appear showing the nearest and most recently-added projects. 4. Survey the map and data table to see if there are developments that have been proposed or approved that you'd like to engage with. 5. Select an interesting Proposed Projects link to see the details of the project, points of contact, the current stage in the approval process. Oftentimes we have a rendering of the project. Further reading: [[Play - Proposed Projects]]. #### Revisit that Property Report 1. Go back to the Property Report and use the Table of Contents to select the "Building permits & data" section. 2. After your web browser automatically scrolls down to this section, use the filters below the data table to find the types of permitted projects you'd like to engage with. 3. For the most significant construction projects, select the checkboxes for "Renovation" and "New construction" permits – then select the "Apply filters" button. 4. After the data table and map are filtered (the "Loading building permits..." dialog box will disappear when the data table is refreshed), click on a building permit title to review more details about the project. 5. Each building permit details page lists the names of the owner, architect, and contractors and subcontractors. Click on any of their names to access a "Company Profile" ([[play_company_profiles|read the play for company profiles]]).
