Though nobody’s quite sure where it came from (or whether Robert J Hanlon even exists) Hanlon’s Razor states that we should not attribute to malice that which is more easily explained by stupidity. To put it another way:
1. Don’t assume everything that’s a problem for you was a problem made for you, and;
2. The worst designs are, more often than not, not designed at all
This is such a liberating concept because our perennial protagonist narrative tendencies lead us to the itchy belief that every slight slight is intended to hurt us, when in fact the truth is probably that nobody was thinking about us at all.
