# Kirk's Security Detail
The private security arrangements at the UVU event are the factual anchor for several claims — the "[[Security Knew It Was Coming|they knew]]" theory, the "[[The Security Detail Was Israeli|Israeli/Mossad detail]]" theory, and the "[[Erika Kirk and the Security Team|Erika hired them]]" theory. Here is what is actually documented.
## The firm and the people
- The detail guarding Kirk on Sept 10, 2025 was **Rockhouse Integrity Group, dba Integrity Security Solutions**, founded in 2023 by **[[Brian Harpole]]** — a former Dallas–Fort Worth-area police officer (previously with Resource Group Unlimited and Shaffer Security Group). He is American, with a U.S. law-enforcement background.
- TPUSA's own **in-house** head of security was **[[Dan Flood]]**, a former U.S. Marine (1997–2003) — distinct from Harpole's *contracted* firm.
- **Justin Davis** was a detail member and a driver on 9/10.
- The **prior** contractor, **Shaffer Security Group** (ex-FBI agent [[Greg Shaffer]]), held the TPUSA contract from 2015 to 2022 and has stated it was **not** guarding Kirk on 9/10.
Every named member has a **documented U.S. background** (Texas police, U.S. Marines, FBI) — the basis for the finding in [[The Security Detail Was Israeli]] that no member is Israeli or ex-Mossad/IDF.
## The contract handover — and the rivalry behind it
The men on stage on 9/10 came up through the **previous** contractor, and the change of firm is contested:
- **2015–2022 — Shaffer.** [[Greg Shaffer]] (retired FBI special agent; founder of Shaffer Security Group) was **TPUSA / Charlie Kirk's security director for seven years**. **[[Brian Harpole]]** worked *for* Shaffer for about seven years; **Dan Flood** (Harpole's best friend) also came up through SSG (photographed guarding Kirk at CPAC 2020).
- **2022–2023 — the switch.** Flood and Harpole left. **Flood** became **TPUSA's own head of security** (LinkedIn: with TPUSA since Feb. 2022; later titled "Head of Risk Strategy"). **Harpole** founded **Rockhouse Integrity Group, dba Integrity Security Solutions**, in **2023** and it **took over TPUSA's protection contract** — the firm on stage at UVU.
- **Shaffer's public grievance.** Shaffer has framed the handover as a **betrayal**, telling *Headline USA* that Harpole and Flood **"shorted"** him on the TPUSA contract and **"stabbed [him] in the back"** (*"No, just got stabbed in the back by some friends"*). It was Shaffer who, in a since-deleted X post, publicly **named Integrity Security Solutions** as the firm guarding Kirk on 9/10 and stressed his own firm *"has not been affiliated with TPUSA since 2022"* and *"was not in Utah on 9/10/2025."*
- **Keep this in its lane.** The Shaffer–Flood–Harpole falling-out is a **personal/business dispute over a contract — not evidence about the assassination.** It matters only because (a) it identifies the on-stage firm and its lineage, and (b) it means the vault's two loudest security-insider voices — Shaffer (predecessor) and [[Brian Harpole]] (incumbent) — are **adverse to each other**, so each should be weighed as an interested source. See [[Greg Shaffer]] and [[2025-09-12 - Greg Shaffer News Interview]].
## What is documented vs. claimed
- **Real, and serious: the security failures.** The lapses are genuine and specific — an **AP investigation** found UVU PD used **6 of its 23 officers**, **no drone**, and **no bag checks**, and **never activated** the Orem PD / Utah County Sheriff mutual aid (both had drones), leaving the accessible **Losee Center roof** unposted; Chief [[Jeff Long]] admitted on the day *"we didn't"* get the bases covered. This is a **competence and coordination** problem — the sort of thing a civil suit (not a plot) targets. See [[Roles and Responsibilities at the Scene]], [[Security Knew It Was Coming]], and [[Gaps in the Investigation]].
- **Not documented: any Israeli/Mossad tie.** No reporting shows any of the personnel were Israeli or connected to foreign intelligence; Harpole denied it directly. The "ties to Israel" line traces to an AI (Grok) reply on X, not to evidence. See [[The Security Detail Was Israeli]].
- **On the scene:** Harpole covered Kirk's body within seconds and applied pressure to the neck wound — and is one of the staff-level sources for the (unofficial) [[The Medical Examiner and the Wound|spine/no-exit]] account.
## The security setup Harpole described (Shawn Ryan Show #254)
On the **[[2025-11-17 - Brian Harpole on the Shawn Ryan Show]]** (Nov. 17, 2025), Harpole walked through the physical layout and the division of responsibility. His account (a partisan, interested one — he is defending his own team) is that many of the apparent "failures" were **not his detail's to fix**:
- **The venue was mandated, not chosen.** The open amphitheater was *"where they told us we had to have it"* via the **school permit** — his team *"weren't optioned out anywhere else."* He calls it a **tactically poor** site (covered from an elevated position across ~180°) but says he couldn't overrule the permit; Kirk also preferred the open, **un-ticketed** format so opposing views would show up.
- **Overwatch/snipers were the police's job, not his.** His detail's area of responsibility was the **close-protection "bubble" (~first 30 meters)**. He says he **legally could not** post snipers or fly drones there — *"This isn't Iraq. This is Utah… I can't go in and set up observation points with snipers. That's against the law."* Rooftop **overwatch capability** belonged to **UVU PD**, whose jurisdiction the campus is.
- **Unused mutual-aid resources.** He says **UVU PD had an MOU / mutual-aid agreement with Orem** for **SWAT** (overwatch) and that **Orem PD has an active drone unit** — both **"not utilized."** By his account, Orem told him they *"didn't get asked."*
- **Manpower.** He brought **~12 guards** (up from a normal **8–9**, plus a 13th in the drive party), *"doubled the amount the PD had"* — while PD gave *"six for the rest of the campus."*
- **The "I got you covered" text.** On the **Monday before**, Harpole says he messaged UVU Police **[[Jeff Long|Chief Long]]** about a **student roof-access point** near the site, asking for it to be controlled or for one of his men to be posted there; the chief's last reply was **"I got you covered."** (See [[Security Knew It Was Coming]] and [[Jeff Long]] — this is Harpole's central blame point against UVU police, and it is **his side of a dispute the chief has not answered on the record**.)
Note the **tension between the two insiders**: [[Greg Shaffer]] (the 2015–2022 predecessor) told the press the *"private security company"* will *"take the brunt of the blame"* ([[2025-09-12 - Greg Shaffer News Interview]]), while [[Brian Harpole]] (the incumbent) pushes the overwatch/rooftop failure onto **UVU PD**. They are **adverse parties** (see the rivalry above), so weigh each accordingly. Both nonetheless agree on one expert point that cuts *against* a "security failure = plot" reading: a lone **long-range rifle shot** is the hardest thing for a private close-protection detail to defend without countersniper coverage.
## Note
Harpole has become a litigant himself: on **May 1, 2026** he **sued Candace Owens for defamation** over a theory that he helped coordinate the killing. See [[Brian Harpole]].
