When the truth does not align with our self-image or expectations our natural reaction is to reject that truth and seek out an alternative explanation that more closely aligns with our self-narrative.
We also do not like basic or simple answers. We prefer a more complex explanation for what we see as an uncertain world. However, if you take the time to distill, all things become simple and basic because the world is full of humans, and the simple truth of human nature drives most of what we experience.
