Trust and [[Faith]] are closely related concepts, but they have distinct characteristics: Trust is based on evidence, reliability, and past experiences. It involves relying on someone or something due to a proven track record. Trust is an action, something you do or act upon. Faith, on the other hand, involves belief and conviction in the absence of concrete evidence. It is a belief system, often pertaining to the intangible or unknown. Faith is something you have or possess, described as the "substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen." Trust is something we do without thinking. When you sit down you trust that the chair will hold, when your drive you trust that the brakes will stop the vehicle, you trust that people will stop at stop signs and red lights. So much of our daily lives are built on the foundation of trust; it makes everything easier and helps us do more with our time. When that trust is violated, it can be something as small as the internet going down, we are reminded of how fragile life is. When our goals are blocked because something we put our trust in failed we become angry and a feeling of injustice grows within our hearts. A whole generation of Americans trusted in the American Dream which has become increasingly out of reach for a growing number of people and we can see signs of growing agitation in society and politics. There is a [[Cycles|cycle]] at work here that goes largely unnoticed until it becomes the only thing we can see. It leads to the Turnings that we have seen throughout history and it is all based on our trust. As we achieve success in life as individuals and as society at large we increasingly place our trust into the transient things of the world like money and power. We build structures that appear durable but never stand the test of time. When money and power accumulate in one corner of the world the natural agitation starts to reverse the process. This is the [[Entropy]] of the world at work. Nothing we build with our hands can stand the test of [[Time]]. So where do you choose to place your trust today?
