> [!NOTE] CatHackers (vs the World)
> CatHackers (vs the World) is a cybersecurity heist game where 2-4 players race to steal Greg's Data coins by snooping, conning, hijacking, and CyberWar-ing each other along the way. Every card is a real-world scam or defense: by the time you've won a few games, you'll know exactly what to do the next time someone calls claiming to be IT. Easy to learn, mom-playable, and silly. 2-4 players - 30 minutes - ages 10+

(don't worry about the title being wrong in the rulebook, I'm working on it :) )
## News
### 05/26/2026
The card game I've been designing is real! It's so amazing to see this project become actual cards that I can hold (instead of the makeshift index cards that I've been playing with!). I'm excited to keep playing my game and getting more feedback from people.
Here's me talking about the game! https://youtube.com/shorts/UbLRselEjRw?feature=share
Let me know what you think about how it looks!

## Playtesting
I'm playtesting with people! I currently have volunteers joining me in my discord server, and having regular playtesting night where we hop on and have fun playing cards.
Currently, the only ways to playtest the game are:
1. the steam game *Tabletop Simulator* and the Steam Workshop
2. My physical copy
> [!NOTE] Volunteering to Playtest CatHackers
> If you interested in volunteering to help me out, feel free to reach out about it! Right now, I need as much feedback as I can get to flush bugs and kinks out. Connect with me and I'll invite you to the CatHackers Playtest Discord Server!

## About CatHackers....
I started working on CatHackers about 5 months ago when I decided that I wanted to make a game that I could play with my mom AND also talk about cybersecurity with her.
Being the filial son that I am, I am always talking to my mom about security (don't share your MFA code! Use a good password! Just in case she's reading this...) and I'm sure at some point or another it goes over her head. I also wanted a way to practice some of the techniques with my mom, because it's one thing to hear about a scam, and it's very much another thing to be in the middle of a scam and not know what to do.
I played with a couple different ideas for CatHackers but I essentially settled on two core goals:
1. make a game that is fun
2. show the basic components of how to stay safe online
That's it! I didn't want to make a full-on educational tool and risk making a boring game that people forget about or that is only used by a niche audience; I want to be able to whip this game out when people are hanging out and not make it "learning cybersecurity"
CatHackers is simple so that my mom knows what I'm talking about, but still uses real-world concepts and ideas like how bad guys are interested in *any* data, not just big suit CEOs and presidents, and what non-technical people can do about it.
Plus, the game is silly and that makes me happy.
