Remnant is what remains of someone's soul and/or memories after they've been extracted. The life experiences that make a person who they are. A person's remnant can be partially extracted to make a copy of themselves in a Horcrux-like fashion to protect them from death. It can also be harvested as a resource to gain life and power. Metal can absorb remnant, and silver has the best affinity for it. Remnant is frequently extracted and stored in silver, although remnant isn't the metal, but the haunted energy stored within. ## Sister Location's Scooper collects it It's first mentioned in Sister Location. Here's an annotated version of the Scooper's blueprint from Sister Location: [![[Annotated Scooper Blueprint.jpg|600]]](<Annotated Scooper Blueprint.jpg>) The Scooper collects "Ulterior Presence." It can inject Remnant into items as well as scooper it out of robots. Creepily, the blueprint advises the operator to keep the collected living metal heated so that it doesn't move... suggesting when it's at room temperate, it ==does move==. [[Circus Baby's Entertainment and Rental]] sends the [[Funtime Animatronics|Funtimes]] to the surface to devour victims, whose remnant gets absorbed into the living metal of their stomachs. When they return to base, the company collects this remnant by scooping out the freshly haunted stomach metal. ## Special Delivery collects and weaponizes it. [[Special Delivery]] collects remnant in two ways: By finding it as [floating as balls of whispering light](<https://youtu.be/GzGqYYHlpuU>) in the air, or attacking other players to steal it from them. [![[FNAF AR Remnant Color Guide.jpg|108]]](<FNAF AR Remnant Color Guide.jpg>)[![[FNAF AR Remnant Lost After Battle.png|180]]](<FNAF AR Remnant Lost After Battle.png>)[![[Add Remnant to FNAF AR Robot.png|174]]](<Add Remnant to FNAF AR Robot.png>) The more remnant you add to a robot, the more powerful it becomes, and the more likely it is to successfully defeat whoever you attack it with, or just harvest supplies more efficiently. ## Remnant is alive and whispers to you When you're collecting remnant in the air, you hear this whispering sound: ![[RemnantWhisper.mp3]] This sound may contain several hidden messages according to [Espsiongold2](<https://youtu.be/Ug3Xi8n7Dcg>). ## Environmental Remnant While remnant is far more concentrated in a living person or robot, FNAF AR shows it can exist in the air as a residual energy. Powerful memories and emotions can attach themselves to objects or places, and "haunt" them. Deja Vu happens when someone visits a place, and feels as if they've been there before. In FNAF's universe, encountering environmental remnant can give visitors the memories of someone else who had been there before. This is why the mall in [[The Silver Eyes]] shut down: The memory of the pain and tragedy at Freddy's radiated throughout the Mall even after being sealed away in concrete, until customers couldn't bring themselves to visit anymore. ## Making a Horcrux of someone with remnant. In the Fazbear Fright books, [[Dr. Talbert]] was worried his sick daughter [[Renelle]] would die, so he extracted some of her remnant and put it into a silver locket. He did this out of love: He couldn't bear the thought of losing his daughter. But the process of extracting some of Renelle's remnant likely involved stabbing her with a silver knife, which caused her to run away from fear. At the end of the [[Stitchwraith Stories]] Dr. Talbert and [[Detective Larson]] have a quick but very important conversation about remnant: [![[Dr Talbert Renelle Horcrux 1.png|340]]](<Dr Talbert Renelle Horcrux 1.png>)[![[Dr Talbert Renelle Horcrux 2.png|342]]](<Dr Talbert Renelle Horcrux 2.png>) Talbert admits his obsession with creating the silver locket is why he lost Renelle in the first place. When Larson pointedly asks Talbert where the remnant he used to created the locket came from, Talbert is too ashamed to meet Larson's eyes, and begs him to take the cursed object away from him. Making this locket definitely hurt Renelle: The remnant used to create it came from her. Worse yet, it twisted into an inversion of Renelle instead of a copy: The evil [[Eleanor]]. ## Copies can twist into Inversions. Eleanor was able to pretend to be Renelle so convincingly, she even fooled her father Dr. Talbert. That's because Eleanor actually was a version of Renelle, but a twisted copy that was the opposite of Renelle's nice personality. Jekyll and Hyde is a good analogy: While technically parts of the same man Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde could not possibly be more different. [[Charlie]] deals with a similar situation in her trilogy. Ultimately, she has to face off against [[Baby | Elizabeth/Baby]] who was supposed to be her own [[The Four Closet System|Fourth Closet]] adult form! Elizabeth was just as good at pretending to be Charlie as Eleanor was at pretending to be Renelle. Third Closet Charlie and Fourth Closet Baby both shared memories from First Closet [[Ella]], and remember parts of their father showing them the bare Freddy's endos in the driveway. But only Baby remembers being a doll torso on a tripod. Charlie and Renelle have a ton in common: Both their fathers were mad scientists specializing in remnant that tried to "save" their daughters in a good-intentioned why that had terrible consequences. Eleanor is even linked to Ella in the [[Stitchwraith]] stories! If my theories are correct, this story also plays out in the games, since [[Henry]] tried to "save" Game Charlie in a similar way, by driving up and stabbing her with silver knife during Take Cake to the Children. The Puppet absorbed what remnant remained in Charlie's dying body, while Henry carried off the rest to build JJ -- the game's version of Ella. JJ/Ella would eventually grow up to become the teenager William stuffed into Fredbear on [[June 26th]], turing her into [[Shadow Freddy]], the game's version of Eleanor. A similar twisting happened in the Fazbear Fright story [[Into The Pit]] where the yellow rabbit suit Oswald's Dad used to wear a Freddy's became haunted by a negative version of his father's remnant, eventually killing 6 children during business hours in an attack very much like [[Save Them]] in FNAF 2. Which, if my theories are correct, was also performed by an empty Spring Bonnie suit, haunted by [[Shadow Bonnie]], a negative version of [[William Afton]]. [[The Puppet Carver]] also has an example of a person's remnant being split into positive and negative entities, which are then at odds with each other. ## High Heat kills (normal) Remnant The [Scooper Diagram](<Annotated Scooper Blueprint.jpg>) says too much heat kills the living metal. This is how Henry attempted to destroy all the animatronics he trapped in the reopened [[Freddy Fazbear's Pizza Place]] in [[Pizzeria Simulator]]. However, this didn't entirely work as planned, as these robots merged together to form [[The Blob]] in Security Breach, which was still alive, and had component robots with glowing possessed eyes. ## Shadow Remnant While collecting remnant in FNAF AR, you can counter Shadow Remnant and absorb it by accident. If you absorb too much, you summon [[Shadow Bonnie]] and have to fight him. This negative "Shadow Remnant" Might be the [[Agony]] that [[Dr. Phineas Taggart]] studied. ## Shadow Remnant/Agony can survive fires Some part of the Pizzeria Simulator robots stayed alive after Henry overheated the building. [[Orville Elephant]] tells the UCN protagonist that they will keep him here "no matter how many times they burn us." [[Burntrap]] repeatedly survives being set on fire. He doesn't like it, but seems able to deal with it. While normal positive remnant might be destroyed by excessive heat, it's possible Shadow Remnant/Agony can survive it. ## Does the "Cloud" Pattern indicate remnant-infused objects? [![[Scooper Remnant Tip and Puppet share the Cloud pattern.png|400]]](<Scooper Remnant Tip and Puppet share the Cloud pattern.png>)[![[Scooper Sister Location with Remnant Reservoir bright.png|250]]](<Scooper Sister Location with Remnant Reservoir bright.png>) The Scooper's tip shares a pattern with the Puppet's mask. This pattern only appears on the cutting edge, not the rest of the Scooper's metal arm. The Scooper's [blueprint](<Annotated Scooper Blueprint.jpg>) said to keep this "Remnant Injector" remnant-infused. This ["cloud" texture appears on all sorts of characters and objects](<Cloud Spec on FNAF 1 Bonnie.jpg>) in FNAF, which would make sense since many characters and objects in FNAF are remnant-infused. Several Twitter users pointed out [the Cloud pattern also appears on the large metal wheel at the base of the Scooper](<https://twitter.com/BlackfootFeret/status/1784797159436759541>). But in the blueprints this is called the "[Remnant Reservoir](<Cloud Spec on the Scooper Base.png>)," so it would have the cloud pattern too.
