I'm starting this note at Level 30 lol.
WOW! This game is incredible. I'm having a FUCKING blast!
I'm pretty sure I saw the trailer in the Indie World Showcase, but I didn't think much of it other than it looked really cute. But, then I saw that one weird tik tok nigga that talks about games and psychology streaming it... and I IMMEDIATELY needed to get it. And did. Because I'm fucking rich.
Like, I've been avoiding Dark Souls games for so long because I didn't think I'd enjoy how it controls, but playing this I totally get it now. Watching your opponent, striking when you get or MAKE an opening, combining your skills and buffs for specific enemies, very fun.
Not sure how the random shell / shield mechanics work in a regular souls game or soulslike, but that feels like a random breath of the wild element to it. I'm into it, even though the best shell is the Coconut, easy. The Lil Bro shell that looks like Slowbro's Cloyster is also very cool looking.
Oh, but honestly the most important part of the game truly is the world building itself. It's a hilarious game, poking fun of the reality of the shittiness of capitalism, how that's leading to the pollution of our oceans, and it's just fucking cute how they overlaid the ocean over those same issues.
It's really genius. An entire satirical game, I never thought I'd see something like this lol. I've taken hella screenshots of some of the pieces of trash that were used cleverly. The lobster knights use a straw and a fast food cup top as a lance, a long ass "CVS" receipt is used as a bridge in New Carcenia, which is the trash metropolis for the crabs.
They use Bottles as dense housing / skyscrapers above, and cardboard boxes in the depths to make the slums lolololloll.
I just got the second piece of the map. And, that WHOLE sequence going to the trash mine was EXTREMELY TOUGH at first as I was learning how to fight the monsters.. There's like 1000 branching paths which is my FAVORITE THING in video games! Metroid! Zelda! That's that shit. What's the "main" path and the "side" path?
Niggas love detours n shit.
I'll always take the side path. That's how I discovered the Crumbled Village, or whatever it's called. It was right next to the boat that I fought the samurai crab lolololl.
I hope there's like a boss rush mode after the game is over.
Oh, but also, it's VERY CLEAR that this is an indie game. First off, it looks like SHIT on the switch. But like... it LITERALLY LOOKS BETTER THAN POKEMON ARCEUS *AND* [[Pokemon Violet|VIOLET]]!
Game freak should literally be embarrased. This is an indie game, and it DOES run like shit, but it's still literally better graphics than THE RICHEST IP IN THE WORLD!
But this isn't about pokemon.
I hope this runs better on PC / Xbox. The tik tok nigga was playing it on Xbox and it looked pretty good in the stream, but the switch version is *choppy* as fuck, and has hella slowdowns in some in between areas, sometimes just quits loading when using fast travel...
With the first major boss, the queen crab... or maybe she was the second after the weird ass lobster knight. His voice actor was fucking awful. That is not a real character sir. Please stop being so loud and annoying. And white.
But yeah the queen crab, when she would grab me she'd literally spin around in a circle without completing the attack and I'd literally have to force restart the game to get out of it. I couldn't pause or interrupt it at all, it was pretty fucked.
# Game breaking glitch??
Well.. I think I'm stuck at an unsolveable magnet puzzle in the game? Or maybe I'm doing something wrong that's obvious, but I've moved this damn spring into the magnet as many different ways as I fucking can and nothing's happening!!
The magnet started moving after I did some weird jumps to make it to the platform to get the pin plug. This is very frustrating if I have to end my experience here.. UGH.
WOW! I'M DUMB AS FUCK!! I JUST NEEDED TO FUCKING SHELL UP LOLOLOLLOL.
Damn... why didn't I try that lololl.
I'm still gonna download this on Xbox because I wanna see how much better the graphics are. And smoother gameplay I hope. It's at 30fps and it's not even locked lololl.
# Xbox
Holy shit, I started playing it on GamePass and it looks LIGHTYEARS better on the Xbox one. Still not great, and for some reason the cutscenes have some nice effects on them but they still run like shit, really have no idea what's going on with that.
But, the most interesting thing is how much less I'm dying. I'm not really grinding *much*, but it's crazy how much more important technique is than stats or items. Literally I just started the treasure hunt sequence in like, maybe a couple hours. It took much longer on my first playthrough because I was looking through every nook and cranny now I'm kinda speedrunning it a bit more, but still collecting items and shit I remember.
Also the boss fights are MUCH easier the second time around, it's crazy. I'll get back to where I was in no time. And I'm even finding new shit I didn't find on my first run! Pretty wild. I beat the Duchess on my first try! I found a coconut super early and I'd invested more into RES instead of putting everything in attack lol. Second build I focused more on survivability than power, and I'm pretty sure that's gonna work very well.
