**Hello**, 'tis Alex and his obligatory about me page!!!
Alex at a glance-
- I hold an MBioMedSci From the University of York :D
- I am a Gram-negative bacteria enthusiast
- I am a big nerd, not just about science
I can't really gloat about myself or my achievements as I hold little more than a masters degree and a serious love for gram-negative bacteria. I don't even know if anyone has ever seen this page (so I cant flex my immense reach).
However, what I can say for myself is that this page has had every ounce of love and care poured into it- I treat it like my child which probably tells you something about me if you think about it deeply. I'm **22** and a fresh graduate I hope to dedicate my life to research and my areas of interest (this isn't a CV, I promise).
If it wasn't already apparent, I was diagnosed with Autism and ADHD as a child so while this page may seem "unprofessional" it has had the dedication of a "special interest" powering it and I'm pretty sure that can vouch for me.
>##### What are focused and dedicated interests?
Focused and dedicated interests are subjects and/or activities that a person engages in very deeply – in the short term, long term or as a lifelong interest.
Autistic people may spend a lot of time doing, learning about, working on or thinking about these interests – more time and effort than most people spend on their hobbies. They may become an expert in their interest (or interests) or create an impressive collection relating to it. From [Autism.org](https://www.autism.org.uk/advice-and-guidance/topics/about-autism/focused-and-dedicated-interests)
My interests outside of this topic are broad and varied as they are for a lot of people. I am a *major* nerd- I play Magic: the gathering (I main azorius), Dungeons and dragons and Fate when I get the chance to. As can also be imagined I have a large interest in much "nerdy" media such as Star wars and Naruto but also games (series) like The legend of Zelda and hollow knight. I enjoy drawing a lot, mainly digitally but I love to use oil pastels. Further to all this, I am also a metalhead with my favourite bands being Lacuna coil, Nine inch nails, Tool, White ward and Paleface Swiss; but my music taste is rather varied so I can also be caught listening to Hatsune Miku, Audioslave, Placebo, Muse and Sewerslvt.
This is where I cook:

# Why this page exists
Obviously a little of this explained on the landing page but I would like to touch on this further here
In my 4th year of university (Integrated course) I worked on a project, I am unable to disclose, pertaining to *Escherichia coli* and changing its morphology, likely due to alterations at the outer membrane, which is where this page came in; I had to learn a totally new to me topic and I needed to take notes... I then fell into an inescapable infatuation with my gram-negative friends and decided that everyone else deserved to know about them too.
Due to my unnatural ability to hoover up and digest research papers and review articles, and my strange dedication to spending most of my free time doing this- I decided to make the most of this and start making my notes (and general love) into a resource that other people can utilise. It is as accurate and as up-to-date I can feasibly make it and surprisingly the websitification of this process happened quite early on.
In a selfish sense, I also needed somewhere to offload this information, I'm pretty sure if this didn't exist I would be in my room, wall covered in insane ramblings, drawings and red string everywhere. This particular area of science isn't impossibly complex that it can't be explained, but it is vast, evolving and interconnected; this page helps me keep my thoughts organised and my enthusiasm channelled towards a goal. I genuinely want this website to be useful to those that stumble upon it.
>I believe even the most niche areas of science deserve clear, accessible explanations. My aim is to make Gram-negative biology less mysterious and more exciting for anyone who comes upon it.
