# Character Creation for Terafen We recommend you start by checking out the [[Campaign Primer]] to get yourself familiar with the setting and maybe get an initial idea for the kind of trouble you want to get into. Create a 1st level character following the guidelines for [Advanced 5th Edition](https://a5e.tools/rules/character-walkthrough). We follow those rules except where noted here. ## Ability Scores You have **27 points** to spend on ability scores. The cost of each score is shown on the table below. You can not have a score higher than 15. | Score | Cost | | Score | Cost | | ---- | ---- | ---- | ---- | ---- | | 8 | 0 | | 12 | 4 | | 9 | 1 | | 13 | 5 | | 10 | 2 | | 14 | 7 | | 11 | 3 | | 15 | 9 | ## Ancestry Choose an ancestry (referred to as a Heritage in A5E, but as Ancestries here for compatibility with more systems). | Ancestry | Description | | ---- | ---- | | [[Dwarf - A5E]] | Hardy resilient craftsmen of the mountains, clan above all | | [[Eladrin - A5E]] | Elves of the [[Feywild]], enchanted by Fey nature | | [[Elf - A5E]] | Bound to both their environment and magic, untrusted | | [[Gnome - A5E]] | Brilliant tinkers and mages who push the boundaries of what's possible | | [[Goliath - A5E]] | Stalwart giants with flesh like stone who claim harsh lands as their own | | [[Human - A5E]] | Fast learning and adaptive, the most prolific ancestry | | [[Tabaxi - A5E]] | Wandering catfolk who travel in trade caravans across Terafen | | [[Tiefling]] | Tiefling are very rare in Terafen because the Tiefling curse does not pass down the way it does in other settings. Entire living families have been known to be changed simultaneously however, so it is possible to not have been the source of your Tiefling curse. | ## Culture Choose any of the provided cultures. Take a look at the provided ancestries if you were raised by an ancestry other than that of your birth. ## Background Choose from the standard provided backgrounds. ## Destiny Choose from the standard provided destinies. ## Class Choose from the standard provided classes. **Note**: If you're an arcane spellcaster of some kind (Sorcerer, Wizard, Warlock, etc.) make sure you review [[Celestia#Laws for Arcane Magic|the laws of arcane magic in Celestia]] as the [[Arcane Watch]] is a serious threat. ## Bond With Someone Talk to someone else in your group, preferably someone that doesn't already have a bond, and give them an elevator pitch about your character. Don't go too deep, it's more fun to find stuff out during play! Then, listen intently to their pitch too. Assume your two characters have known each-other for some amount of time (up to you two how long). Discuss your character's current relationships with each-other and how they might change over time. Make sure that you're both comfortable with role-playing the kind of relationship you're interested in. ## Interview Relax, this'll be fun! This is my chance to learn about you and your character so I can put something fun together for both of us. You can find the interview questions on the [[Questionnaire]] questionnaire.
