# Futuristic 前瞻 (qián zhān) Domain: 🟩 Strategic Thinking ### Signature Theme Description “Wouldn’t it be great if ...” You are the kind of person who loves to peer over the horizon. The future fascinates you. As if it were projected on the wall, you see in detail what the future might hold, and this detailed picture keeps pulling you forward, into tomorrow. While the exact content of the picture will depend on your other strengths and interests —a better product, a better team, a better life or a better world —it will always be inspirational to you. You are a dreamer who sees visions of what could be and who cherishes those visions. When the present proves too frustrating and the people around you too pragmatic, you conjure up your visions of the future and they energize you. They can energize others too. In fact, very often people look to you to describe your visions of the future. They want a picture that can raise their sights and thereby their spirits. You can paint it for them. Practice. Choose your words carefully. Make the picture as vivid as possible. People will want to latch on to the hope you bring. ### Shared Theme Description People exceptionally talented in the Futuristic theme are inspired by the future and what could be. They energize others with their visions of the future. ### Additional Notes Futuristic sees tomorrow in vivid detail, anticipates or imagines what could be, and inspires others with that vision. Futuristic is not content with the status quo, but rather is inspired but what the organization, relationship, the situation can become. Those with Futuristic in their Top 5 often spend so much time thinking about and envisioning the future that today can seem like the past. (source: 2) Futuristic people love to dream about, imagine, explore and visualize the future. Sometimes it's the deep future -- the 100-year view and beyond. At other times it's the more immediate future -- next year, or in five years or 10 years. But it's a constant consideration of what may be, what can be and what will be. (source: 4) It means that you are grounded and inspired by what could be; that you make sense of today by placing it in the context of tomorrow, and you energize others with your visions for the future. (source: 3) If you have high Futuristic, you might find it hard to keep your feet on the ground. You can easily and vividly daydream about what might be possible. The future makes more sense to you than the present. You may have been called a big thinker, imaginative or even a dreamer. (source: 3) ### Raw & Mature **Mature** Mature Futuristic is inspirational, it's being compassionate and understanding towards someone who might want to fix what's going on now, while also keeping them from staying stagnant. **Raw** Raw Futuristic is impatient, someone who doesn't want to help people see through to the future. (source: 4) ### Helps and Hinders A complementary theme to Futuristic is #CS/Activator🟧 . Activator can push the vision into action, and create the steps to make the future a reality. Another complementary theme is #CS/Includer🟦 . If you have a partner with high Includer, they can help you create a place for everyone in that future. (source: 4) ### Helps and Hinders _**Helps**_ - You tend to see the future in great detail and are likely able to vividly describe that future. As such, by sharing your vision, you can inspire others to achieve things they never thought possible. - By asking questions like "What if …?" or "Wouldn't it be great if …?" you keep yourself and your team moving forward. - Your Futuristic talents can be a source of hope and optimism -- for yourself and for others. You look ahead to what you and others can become, not wanting to waste time rehashing the mistakes of the past. You learn from the past, of course, but you don't let it inhibit future possibilities. - Because you are focused on the future, others might see you as a sounding board or a source of advice. You can help others not only visualize their dreams but see a way toward accomplishing them. _**Hinders**_ - You can tend to be so focused on tomorrow that you miss the beauty, wonder and opportunities of today. Be intentional about savoring today -- it will provide fuel for your future dreams. - You can tend not to be fully present to the people who are with you -- jumping ahead, anticipating what they are going to say, thinking about the next appointment on your agenda. This can lead others to feel you don't fully value or appreciate them. To mitigate this, try to determine which of your other themes allow you to be present, and leverage those themes when being present is the most important gift you can give someone. - If your team is getting ready to deliver a critical milestone, you could derail their progress by jumping in with, "Hey, you know what would be great if we could do it next year?" Your team won't appreciate your timing. - The energy and satisfaction you derive from thinking about the future may lead others to perceive you as an impractical, unrealistic dreamer. Help others see not just the end result but a path to get there. But there are differences, and the differences, when taken together, can make for a very powerful combination. • **Futuristic** can see a better world; **Strategic** can see the route to a better world. • **Futuristic** anticipates what could be, and **Strategic** anticipates options. • Those high in **Futuristic** tend to scan the horizon in order to see what is to come; those high in **Strategic** tend to scan the entire landscape in order to see the big picture. • **Futuristic** may have a vivid picture of tomorrow -- but no idea how to get there. **Strategic**, when presented with the vivid picture of tomorrow, can typically envision several ways to get there. #CS/Futuristic🟩 and #CS/Consistency🟪 The differences lie primarily in each theme's approach to the status quo. • Those high in **Futuristic** tend to resist -- even hate -- the status quo. For them, the status quo inhibits creativity and keeps us chained to the present. For those high in **Consistency** the status quo ensures fairness and provides for the smooth and orderly conduct of the group. • **Futuristic** anticipates and imagines what could or should be, while **Consistency** reduces variance and increases uniformity. • **Consistency** is focused on the fairest and most orderly way to get things done now, while **Futuristic** focuses on what the world or our team will be like next year -- or 10 years forward. #CS/Futuristic🟩 and #CS/Positivity🟦 Those with **Futuristic** don't always have a "progress is always better" vision of the future; sometimes that vision is scary. Those with **Positivity**, however, bring social energy, a contagious enthusiasm, and an optimistic attitude to their work and life -- and always see the glass as half-full. • Both **Positivity** and **Futuristic** impact the emotions of others. • **Futuristic** can create images of the future that inspire others, and **Positivity** can lift and lighten the mood of others. • When the current situation is negative, those high in **Futuristic** can lift their own mood by thinking about the future and what can be -- while those high in **Positivity** lift their own and others' moods by concentrating on the positive aspects of what is happening now. ![[🟩 CS_Intellection#^6bd409]] ![[🟧 CS_Command#^b27092]] ![[🟧 CS_Communication#^f6a654]] ![[🟧 CS_Self-Assurance#^3ee889]] ![[🟧 CS_Woo#^398f65]] ![[🟩 CS_Ideation#^2a04b2]] ![[🟩 CS_Ideation#^934e4b]] ![[🟩 CS_Context#^25dcb2]] ### Themes that Amplify: Positivity, Intellection, Ideation, Connectedness, Input, Learner (source: 4) ### Themes that Moderate: Strategic, Achiever, Arranger, Discipline, Responsibility, Activator (source: 4) ### Strengths Whisperer Podcast ![[💪 The Strengths Whisperer Coach to Coach Podcast Notes#^6985a0]] ### Instagram posts: ![[CliftonStrengths_Futuristic_1.png|220]] ![[CliftonStrengths_Futuristic_2.png|220]] ![[CliftonStrengths_Futuristic_3.png|220]] Futuristic Help and Hinder ![[CliftonStrengths_Futuristic_HelpHinder_1.png|220]] ![[CliftonStrengths_Futuristic_HelpHinder_2.png|220]] ![[CliftonStrengths_Futuristic_HelpHinder_3.png|220]] #CS/Futuristic🟩 and #CS/Woo🟧 ![[CliftonStrengths_Futuristic_Woo_1.png|220]] ![[CliftonStrengths_Futuristic_Woo_2.png|220]] ![[CliftonStrengths_Futuristic_Woo_3.png|220]] ![[CliftonStrengths_Futuristic_Woo_4.png|220]] ![[CliftonStrengths_Futuristic_Woo_5.png|220]] #CS/Futuristic🟩 and #CS/Positivity🟦 ![[CliftonStrengths_Futuristic_Positivity_1.png|220]] ![[CliftonStrengths_Futuristic_Positivity_2.png|220]] ![[CliftonStrengths_Futuristic_Positivity_3.png|220]] ![[CliftonStrengths_Futuristic_Positivity_4.png|220]] #CS/Futuristic🟩 and #CS/Consistency🟪 ![[CliftonStrengths_Futuristic_Consistency_1.png|220]] ![[CliftonStrengths_Futuristic_Consistency_2.png|220]] ![[CliftonStrengths_Futuristic_Consistency_3.png|220]] ![[CliftonStrengths_Futuristic_Consistency_4.png|220]] ----- ### Sources: 1.
