# Woo 取悦 (qǔ yuè) Domain: 🟧 Influencing ### Signature Theme Description Woo stands for winning others over. You enjoy the challenge of meeting new people and getting them to like you. **Strangers are rarely intimidating to you.** On the contrary, strangers can be energizing. You are drawn to them. You want to learn their names, ask them questions and find some area of common interest so that you can strike up a conversation and build rapport. Some people shy away from starting up conversations because they worry about running out of things to say. You don’t. Not only are you rarely at a loss for words; you actually enjoy initiating with strangers because you derive satisfaction from breaking the ice and making a connection. Once that connection is made, you are quite happy to wrap it up and move on. There are new people to meet, new rooms to work, new crowds to mingle in. In your world there are no strangers, only friends you haven’t met yet —lots of them. ### Shared Theme Description People exceptionally talented in the Woo theme love the challenge of meeting new people and winning them over. They derive satisfaction from breaking the ice and making a connection with someone. ### Additional notes: Typically woo is about the initial connection, a comfort and energy for meeting people, and setting up a relationship that can go deeper Make sure you know a little bit about the community you serve, that you can speak their language. Raise your hand to be in a situation where there's a lot of people around you. Go to networking events or industry event. Be the greeter to welcome people on your team. You're at your best when you're among other people. (source: 5, video with Maika) You add spark of comfort to social situations. You see people, you notice people. You can disarm social anxiety by acknowledging the presence of others. Chances are you willingly and quickly love people. You genuinely notice things to like about others. You're most on when you're around others. Because of this, you are able to adjust to what your audience or colleagues need socially, and provide that. Woo is about warming up the bonds between colleagues, strangers or partners. (source: 3) If you're interested in helping someone with **Woo** stretch or develop, tap into their natural awareness of others as a glue for your team. Invite them to purposefully make people feel at ease. If you lead a team and have someone with Woo as a direct report, you might ask them to clue you in on ways you as a leader can help others feel seen and appreciated. **Don't expect that woo is a catch-all for "social talent." Without other themes, this person may not necessarily enjoy long-term relationships or thrive at connecting with clients, customers, or even personal friends on a deep level.** This doesn't make their connection any less relevant or important. But don't set them up to fail by assuming they're great at all things relationship. (source: 3) People with WOO are drawn to other people. It can be the same with reverse magnetism, people are drawn to those with WOO. (source: 4) ### Raw and Mature - Raw WOO looks like the need for people to like you. If that's all you have it can lead you to some pretty tricky behavior. However, mature WOO is the realization that you like people. This might feed the need to be liked in return, but to see it less as the need to be fulfilled, and more as that connection because you truly love people. - Raw WOO says rapport is the goal, whereas mature WOO says rapport is just a means towards a bigger goal. It is more important to break the ice so that we can get to better performance, or so that we can make deeper relationships. - Where raw WOO is more about the pleasure in the moment, mature is about recruiting and assembling. You can use that ability to win people over to get you somewhere. There is power and edge to WOO. It is not just about being the person that everyone is comfortable around. It can also have a really positive relationship with people that can be resources to you, and that can make you a powerful leader. (source: 4) When I meet people, depending on the vibe, I'll try giving out some "gold," AKA me attempting to be funny to get a laugh out of someone. Many people buy my gold - because they love it or they're being polite. 😂 But some people will simply not go for it. And then I make it my secret mission to make them crack at some point. So satisfying when they do! ~ Pamela WIlton ([LinkedIn](https://www.linkedin.com/feed/update/urn:li:ugcPost:7287842809686933504?commentUrn=urn%3Ali%3Acomment%3A%28ugcPost%3A7287842809686933504%2C7287844666606030848%29&dashCommentUrn=urn%3Ali%3Afsd_comment%3A%287287844666606030848%2Curn%3Ali%3AugcPost%3A7287842809686933504%29)) ### With other Themes: #CS/Woo🟧 and #CS/Self-Assurance🟧 Both **Woo** and **Self-Assurance** demonstrate a degree of confidence. • Those high in **Woo** are confident in social settings, while those with high **Self-Assurance** are confident in their decision making abilities. • **Self-Assurance** is content to go it alone, while **Woo** needs companions on the journey. • Individuals with strong **Self-Assurance** talents tend to be independent and at peace with themselves; those with strong **Woo** talents tend to be interdependent and are at peace when they have made several new social connections. • Those with **Self-Assurance** high and those with **Woo** high can form very effective partnerships, with Self-Assurance confidently charting the course and Woo enlisting others to go along. ^0e4aff #CS/Woo🟧 and #CS/Competition🟧 Both **Woo** and **Competition** have a common element: winning. • **Woo** is about winning others over, and **Competition** is about winning over others. • Those high in **Woo** thrive when they are creating a large social network, and need others to be part of that network. Those high in **Competition** thrive in environments where they can see where they stand in comparison to others in the network, and need others with which to compare their performance. • **Woo** makes people feel part of the team; **Competition** reminds team members the goal is to win. • Those high in **Woo** tend to love meeting people they haven't met before; those high in **Competition** love a chance to go against the best. ^38317f #CS/Woo🟧 and #CS/Futuristic🟩 • **Woo** can tend to be a very here and now theme, focusing who is in front of me now. **Futuristic**, by definition, is not so much focused on the here and now but rather what tomorrow may bring. Both themes share a discontent with the status quo. • **Woo** chafes against a static or shrinking network, wanting to grow, change, and expand the network. • **Futuristic** chafes against a static environment, constantly energized and envisioning the growth and change that tomorrow can bring. • Both also have a natural winsomeness about them. Those high in **Woo** tend to be personally winsome and attract others to their energy and likability; for those high in **Futuristic** their winsomeness comes from the attractiveness and inspiration of their vision of the future. ^398f65 ![[🟦 CS_Positivity#^c7f6e7]] ![[🟦 CS_Individualization#^751991]] ![[🟦 CS_Includer#^222ae4]] ![[🟦 CS_Includer#^65618d]] ![[🟧 CS_Communication#^b75735]] ![[🟧 CS_Communication#^CommunicationWoo2]] ![[🟧 CS_Activator#^0be3d1]] ### Themes that Moderate #CS/Deliberative🟪 #CS/Relator🟦 #CS/Analytical🟩 #CS/Restorative🟪 #CS/Discipline🟪 #CS/Empathy🟦 ### Themes that Accelerate #CS/Communication🟧 #CS/Positivity🟦 #CS/Activator🟧 #CS/Harmony🟦 #CS/Strategic🟩 #CS/Maximizer🟧 ### Instagram Posts ![[CliftonStrengths_Woo_1.png|220]] ![[CliftonStrengths_Woo_2.png|220]] ![[CliftonStrengths_Woo_3.png|220]] ![[CliftonStrengths_Woo_Raw_Mature.png|220]] ![[CliftonStrengths_Woo_WorkingWithWoo.png|220]] #CS/Woo🟧 and #CS/Individualization🟦 ![[CliftonStrengths_Woo_Individualization_1.png|220]] ![[CliftonStrengths_Woo_Individualization_2.png|220]] ![[CliftonStrengths_Woo_Individualization_3.png|220]] ### Strengths Whisperer Podcast ![[💪 The Strengths Whisperer Coach to Coach Podcast Notes#^298a9b]] ------------ Sources: 1 Theme Descriptions: Rath, Tom. _StrengthsFinder 2.0_.
