# Communication 沟通 (gōu tōng)
Domain: 🟧 Influencing
### Signature Theme Description
You like to explain, to describe, to host, to speak in public and to write. This is your Communication theme at work. Ideas are a dry beginning. Events are static. You feel a need to bring them to life, to energize them, to make them exciting and vivid. And so you turn events into stories and practice telling them. You take the dry idea and enliven it with images and examples and metaphors. You believe that most people have a very short attention span. They are bombarded by information, but very little of it survives. You want your information —whether an idea, an event, a product’s features and benefits, a discovery, or a lesson —to survive. You want to divert their attention toward you and then capture it, lock it in. This is what drives your hunt for the perfect phrase. This is what draws you toward dramatic words and powerful word combinations. This is why people like to listen to you. Your word pictures pique their interest, sharpen their world and inspire them to act.
### Shared Theme Description
People exceptionally talented in the Communication theme generally find it easy to put their thoughts into words. They are good conversationalists and presenters.
### Additional notes:
Individuals with Communication theme in their top 5 are **verbally influential**, and rarely have trouble coming up with just the right word or the perfect metaphor to illustrate and animate their point.
They are good conversationalists, and can strike up a conversation with just about anyone. (source: 2)
Somebody has told you, "Yes, that's exactly what I meant. I just didn't have the words. (source: 3)
Can almost compute really quickly from from a thought into into words, words for for Communication are where you find clarity. (source: 3)
**You might have a drive or a care to be understood**, meaning that that might be your goal. And that you also notice when you're misunderstood and really can't let it go, you have to try again, to clarify really what it was that you meant. You might also realize that your own ideas escape through your words, as stories or characters, sometimes before you even have an opportunity to script them. (source: 3)
### Raw and Mature
Raw Communication is chatty, while mature Communication is energetic. The chatty, raw Communication is saying everything you possibly can, whereas the mature version is in control and recognizes what is said will pass energy to others. Raw Communication is verbose and has no ability to filter thought. Mature Communication is pithy -- it has the ability to choose words well. Raw Communication is long-winded, while Mature Communication is far-reaching and powerful.
Mature Communication
- Listens well for what is said and NOT said

#CS/Communication🟧 and #CS/Intellection🟩
In many ways, Communication and Intellection are opposites.
• **Communication** is externally energized and **Intellection** is internally energized.
• **Communication** comes to clarity around ideas by talking them through -- those high in Communication always seem to be seeking out others to "bounce some ideas" off them or "let me talk this idea through" with; they "think out loud." Those high in **Intellection** need to "think things through" before talking about their ideas, and need time alone to think.
• Individuals high in **Communication** tend to like group brainstorming sessions where they can think out loud and be stimulated by the ideas of others, individuals high in **Intellection** would prefer to have some prep time to think things through before coming to a brainstorming session so they can present their best ideas.
• **Communication** learns best when talking to others; **Intellection** learns best when alone and quiet. (source: 2) ^e0c216
