# Connectedness 关联 Domain: 🟦 Relationship Building ### Signature Theme Description Things happen for a reason. You are sure of it. You are sure of it because in your soul you know that we are all connected. Yes, we are individuals, responsible for our own judgments and in possession of our own free will, but nonetheless we are part of something larger. Some may call it the **collective unconscious**. Others may label it **spirit or life force**. But whatever your word of choice, you gain confidence from knowing that we are not isolated from one another or from the earth and the life on it. This feeling of Connectedness implies certain responsibilities. If we are all part of a larger picture, then we must not harm others because we will be harming ourselves. We must not exploit because we will be exploiting ourselves. Your awareness of these responsibilities creates your value system. You are considerate, caring and accepting. Certain of the unity of humankind, you are a bridge builder for people of different cultures. Sensitive to the invisible hand, you can give others comfort that there is a purpose beyond our humdrum lives. The exact articles of your faith will depend on your upbringing and your culture, but your faith is strong. It sustains you and your close friends in the face of life's mysteries. ### Shared Theme Description People exceptionally talented in the Connectedness theme have faith in the links among all things. They believe there are few coincidences and that almost every event has meaning. ### Additional notes: - Bridge builder - you trust the fact that all things, all people, and all events in the universe are somehow linked. This trust translates as perhaps a calmness without having to make total sense of everything. (source: 2) - I don't know how I know, but I just know. (source: 2) - It's really about being in touch or tuned in to what is being unsaid (source: 2) - Connectedness can offer their intuition and notice more emotional evidence than some other themes might. (source: 2) - you are engaged in and fascinated by the links between people, ideas and happenings. (source: 3) With Connectedness on a team, it can offer a calming nature in chaos, because that ability to honor intuition for yourself or maybe even honoring the intuition of others, trusting that there is more to the picture than what is being seen right in front of us. That can help people during times when oftentimes the unknown freaks people out. (source: 2) Connectedness, especially when paired with Belief, can be centering and stabilizing especially in crisis. People go to you for the sense of calm. (source: 4)  I was laughing when you were describing how a connector would grab a piece of information from an article, and then a point would come up in a meeting, and 2 wks prior they saw a commercial and all of a sudden the points come together in a clear vision. This happens to me ALL THE TIME. I did not know this was a connector thing! "I don't know how I know it and it's right." 😍 💯 (source: [Kristin Quiroz Bayona on LinkedIn](https://www.linkedin.com/feed/update/urn:li:ugcPost:7262232971376549889?commentUrn=urn%3Ali%3Acomment%3A%28ugcPost%3A7262232971376549889%2C7262669496430080002%29&dashCommentUrn=urn%3Ali%3Afsd_comment%3A%287262669496430080002%2Curn%3Ali%3AugcPost%3A7262232971376549889%29)) ### Thriving Feels at peace and one with the world and their place within it. (source: 4) ### Struggling Feels as if they've lost their sense of footing, disconnected from their source of connection (source: 4) ##### Blind Spots: - Tend to lead with acceptance. This could mean you don't push the status quo when it genuinely does need to be pushed. (source: 2) - On a team, be aware of others that requires more concreteness, or need to conceptualize ideas directly. (source: 2) ### Raw vs. Mature: - Raw Connectedness causes others to experience open-ended confusion, because that person cannot convey his awareness that something is not right. - Mature Connectedness can provide holistic direction for the future. - Raw Connectedness is a gut feeling - Mature Connectedness builds awareness that can be shared with others. - Raw Connectedness overgeneralizes and makes connections that aren't there. - Mature Connectedness makes meaningful connections. (source: 3) ### Helps and Hinders _**Helps**_ - You see the big picture. When people get caught up in day-to-day challenges that can zap their energy, you can help them step back and see things from a long-term perspective. - Because you find links between everything and everyone, you can build bridges and promote understanding and acceptance. - As a team leader or manager, your Connectedness talents can help forge partnerships and promote collaboration between teams or departments. - We are all part of something bigger than ourselves. This foundational belief can give meaning and purpose to those who are questioning their contribution. _**Hinders**_ - Your philosophical approach to bad news may lead others to wonder if you truly understand the situation. Be aware of and acknowledge others' feelings in such circumstances. - Those with strong Connectedness talents often take an "it was meant to be" attitude toward life that others can view as passive or naïve. - Sometimes those with Connectedness can come across as self-righteous, contending that their worldview -- both seen and unseen -- is the only way to view reality. - Connectedness' common "everything happens for a reason" perspective can be seen as minimizing unjust situations or lead to inertia when action is called for. (source: 7) ### With other Themes: #CS/Connectedness🟦 and #CS/Analytical🟩 Analytical is about measurements, understanding, and proving the truth Connectedness is about being able to accept something they don't completely understand (source: 8) ^7805b6 #CS/Connectedness🟦 and #CS/Harmony🟦 There is a spirit of unity that permeates both themes of **Connectedness** and **Harmony**, but is manifested in different ways. • **Connectedness** sees unity in diversity -- it is our uniqueness that binds us together. **Harmony** sees unity in points of agreement -- we are more alike than we are different. • **Harmony** wants to do what works best and is often seen as very practical, while **Connectedness** wants to experience the mystery of life and is often seen as very spiritual. • **Harmony** wants us all to get along; **Connectedness** wants us all to make the journey together. • **Harmony** brings a peace-loving, conflict-resistant approach, and **Connectedness** brings an appreciation for the mystery and wonder of life. When the viewpoints of both Connectedness and Harmony are integrated, much can be accomplished. (source: 5) ^097f10 #CS/Connectedness🟦 #CS/Ideation🟩 Both Connectedness and Ideation can draw linkages, where other people might not notice them. **Connectedness** is more about the sensing and the feeling in your gut **Ideation** is more about the idea generation and the cerebral work that might happen in the brain (source: 2) ^d33778 #CS/Connectedness🟦 #CS/Includer🟦 **Connectedness** - sees the difference between people and is the bridge builder **Includer** - pulls people into your circle ^c2346b #CS/Connectedness🟦 #CS/Adaptability🟦 Both have the "Let It Go" quality. Both themes hit their stride when they let it go, when they let go of control, or they control something a little bit more closer to themselves. Connectedness might say there are forces outside my control and getting in touch with something bigger helps navigate what I can control. Adaptability says, I'm probably stronger when I'm responding to the present rather than controlling it. (source: 2) #CS/Connectedness🟦 #CS/Empathy🟦 Connectedness and Empathy might sound incredibly similar, ... the sensing is the same, the "in your gut" is the same. The differences are: **Connectedness** is in tune to what other people contribute to the whole. **Empathy** is feeling the emotions of other people. (source: 2) ^4a6c71 #CS/Harmony🟦 #CS/Connectedness🟦 in team conflicts: **Harmony** might say, this conflict that we're in right now is keeping us from moving forward. So here's where we can agree instead. **Connectedness** might say, This conflict is leading us to something meaningful, so let's give it it's due (source: 2) ^05c4a2 #CS/Connectedness🟦 #CS/Belief🟪 **Connectedness** and **Belief** tend to show up close together in one's Theme Sequence. People with high **Belief** need a cause to which to devote themselves; those with high **Connectedness** need to be part of something bigger than themselves. ^081098 #CS/Connectedness🟦 #CS/Belief🟪 Those with strong **Belief** talents are motivated by values and mission; those with strong **Connectedness** talents are motivated by the value they place on the underlying unity of all reality. ^af69f0 #CS/Connectedness🟦 #CS/Belief🟪 **Belief** will make sacrifices for things that are important; **Connectedness** will make sacrifices for the well-being of future generations. ^1aea68 ![[🟪 CS_Arranger#^ce1ce0]] ![[🟦 CS_Individualization#^94da2e]] ![[🟩 CS_Context#^25dcb2]] ![[🟩 CS_Context#^63407e]] ![[🟩 CS_Context#^75eb53]] ### Quotes: 💬 "My #1 Talent. I'm so thankful for it. I describe my Connectedness as the ability to look at a galaxy full of stars as a single string of lights, but when I coach, I bring out my telescope to focus on a single star. It is truly my guiding light." - Brook Steed 💬 Connectedness is in my top 5. I have always loved creating more professional connections with others and building those relationships - others have commented it is a strength for me - I realize it does not come as naturally to everyone. I also have a way of connecting the dots on how I met someone or how we know each other that others don't always seem to have." - Kristen McLaughlin (source: 6) ------------ ### Sources: - 1 Theme Descriptions: Rath, Tom. _StrengthsFinder 2.0_.
