# Cross modulation
This is a kind of [[Feedback loops]] between two oscillators. Sarah Belle Reid says, "So, for example, if we use two oscillators, we can use one oscillator to modulate the frequency of oscillator 2, and the second oscillator to modulate the frequency of oscillator 1." This creates a lot of instability, unpredictability, and nonlinearity.[^1]
To start, patch each oscillator into the other's FM jack. You can monitor one or both oscillators. You may like to pan each oscillator on different sides of the stereo field.[^1]
You can also cross modulate sync, pulse width, or mix and match.[^1]
By adding an envelope generator, you can make gnarly percussive sounds.[^1]
You can use a wave folder patched into its own output to self oscillate.[^2]
