# The difference between hobbies, jobs, careers, and vocation
Hobbies are what you do just for fun, just for you.
Jobs are what you do to care for yourself by paying the bills. You need a job.
A career is a job you feel passionate about. You may be willing to work overtime for it. You don't need a career. If you have a career, make sure you love it.
Vocation is a calling. Nobody can take it from you. Elizabeth Gilbert couldn't have a career and a vocation, so she chose to just get jobs.[^1]
