We live in the [default mode network](default%20mode%20network.md) and have a very hard time [task switching](task%20switching.md) because dopamine is literally the chemical trigger to swap between the task network in the brain and the [default mode network](default%20mode%20network.md) - [ ] Since the [default mode network](default%20mode%20network.md) is very heavily geared towards [input](Input.md), [interconnection](interconnection.md) and [processing](journey%20before%20destination.md), what can we do to amplify these strengths rather than using the task network for [tasks](demand.md)? #todo-research # Interest-Based Nervous System #### Follow the Dopamine #### The 4Cs of Neuro-divergent Motivation ###### - Captivate What captivates your interest? "Follow the [dopamine](ADHD.md)" ###### - Create [creativity](creativity.md) ###### - Compete We are sparked by people telling us we *can't* do something ###### - Complete Creating urgency in a task. How do you do this without creating [deadline dread](deadline%20dread.md)? --- #### Prepare for Doing the Big Task of the Day by Creating Momentum Rather Than "eating the frog" #### Handling Big Projects Requires Breaking Down Enough Steps to See the ADHD Entry Point: Which Steps Will Captivate, Engage Creativity, Trigger Competition Mode or Create Urgency? Once you find your entry point, let your ADHD brain just run with it and do it its own way --- # Strategies No strategy will consistently work for the ADHD brain. You need to find a handful that *sometimes* work and swap strategies as needed. > **Embrace** the *Pivot* ###### Pivot-able Strategies to Try - **Pomodoro** Timers - Find "**sidequests**" > the small side items that are more *captivating* in the moment - **Micro**-commitments : set uber small goals like "I am going to do dishes for five minutes" rather than "I am going to clean the kitchen" - Change up your **Environment**; just pack up and head to a coffee shop or someplace new or different. Other areas of the house may work as well. - Make tests, paperwork or other mundane tasks into a game. Fill out the paperwork backwards or do every other thing rather than in order - Try time based goals, "Write for 20m" etc ###### Strategies for Timeline Based Work 1. Fall behind (*no interest*) --> Catch up (*get interested*) --> Get ahead (*extreme interest*) - Falling behind is not quitting, its just a third of the process when you are chaos and passion driven >> ***consistency*** *is not for everyone* 2. *Only treat **real deadlines** as deadlines*. If there isn't another person involved or other outside force, then its not a real deadline. 3. Screw 1% improvements. Rather than the 1% improvement and *consistency* graph (see Atomic Habits as reference here), do big **bumps** of improvements followed by plateaus. ^d7f1bb - *Prime* your brain for the big spikes with INPUT on the skill you want to learn: reading for writers, looking at art (& tutorials) for artists, etc, until you reach the **I need to do this right now** point. Then hyperfocus! >> Deep work 4. Optimize for *passion* not [consistency](Habit.md) or habit formation - Explore what choices you make and why, so you know what motivates you and how to frame things to get them done # Following the Dopamine Creates Patterns That Uncover [passion](passion.md) and the Powerful Force of Productity That it Can Be >As we begin to identify the things we’re drawn to, we can start properly defining our dreams, based on what we actually believe in. When we believe in what we’re doing, we stop mindlessly clocking in. We become more innovative, creative, and present. [](The%20Bullet%20Journal%20Method.md#^bc6c6e)
