Magic Items - Apotheosis TTRPG

The powerful and anomalous [[items]] that populate these realms are known as Magic Items. They range in rarity and influence, from small useful trinkets, to reality bending weapons. Often prized as relics, they are a rare and welcome sight. Notably, all magic items are incredibly durable and cannot be destroyed without specialized tools or disenchantment. Thus they often end up as family heirlooms or lost and left to drift into isolation. #### Attunement *What is Attunement?* Some magic items require a special bond before their full abilities can be used; this bond is called Attunement. If you are not attuned to an item that requires it, you gain only the mundane properties of the item and none of the magical benefits. *Attuning.* You can attune to an item over a short rest if you spend the time focused on and interacting with the item, at the end of the rest you learn the magical capabilities of the item and how to use them. You can attune to up to three items at a time. *Ending Attunement.* You may end your attunement to an item during a short rest, but it ends automatically if you spend 24 hours over 100ft away from the item. Some weapons designed as special conduits, have slots that arcane gemstones can be fastened into. Read more [[Arcane Gemstones|here]]. --- # Optional Rules ###### Optional Rule: Alternate Attunement - Expanding Control *This optional rule is meant for attunement-heavy campaigns to allow for more minor trinkets. This is anticipated to grant a large amount of player power, especially when attunement items grant passive benefits.* As you adventure your ability to master artifacts grows. Instead of the normal limit of 3 attunement slots, you have slots equal to 1 plus your proficiency bonus. This is anticipated to grant a large amount of player power.* You find that through mastering powerful artifacts, you have spare mental space for more trivial trinkets. For each item you attune to, you may attune to one additional item that is *at least* two "tiers" of rarity below it.
