Druids of the Circle of Spores find beauty in decay. They see within mold and other fungi the ability to transform lifeless material into abundant, albeit somewhat strange, life. These druids believe that life and death are parts of a grand cycle, with one leading to the other and then back again. Death isn’t the end of life, but instead a change of state that sees life shift into a new form. Druids of this circle have a complex relationship with the undead. Unlike most other druids, they see nothing inherently wrong with undeath, which they consider to be a companion to life and death. But these druids believe that the natural cycle is healthiest when each segment of it is vibrant and changing. Undead that seek to replace all life with undeath, or that try to avoid passing to a final rest, violate the cycle and must be thwarted. Circle of Spores is a [[Druid]] subclass. --- # Subclass Features *As a Circle of Spores Druid you gain the following features as you gain levels in Druid.* <br> ## Circle of Spells *3rd-level Circle of Spores feature.* Your symbiotic link to fungi and your ability to tap into the cycle of life and death grants you access to certain spells. You learn additional spells when you reach certain levels in this class, as shown in the Circle of Spores Spells table. Each spell counts as a druid spell for you, but they don't count against the number of druid spells you can prepare. When a hostile creature you can see moves into a space within 10 feet of you or starts its turn there, you can use your reaction to lash out against nearby creatures. Distribute a number of d4s equal to half your druid level rounded up among the creatures within 10ft of you, for each creature, roll and total their dice dealing that much necrotic damage to them unless they succeeds on a Constitution saving throw against your spell save DC. You must assign at least one at least one die to the triggering creature. <br> ## Symbiotic Entity *3rd-level Circle of Spores feature.* You gain the ability to channel magic into your spores. As an action, you can expend a use of your Channel Nature to awaken those spores. You gain 4 temporary hit points for each level you have in this class. While this feature is active, you gain the following benefits: - When you distribute dice for Halo of Spores you gain an additional number of dice equal to your proficiency bonus. - Once on each of your turns when you hit a creature with a melee weapon attack, you may increase the damage by a number of d4s of necrotic damage equal to half the number of dice Halo of Spores would distribute rounded down. (This total is effected by the first half of this ability) These benefits last for 10 minutes, until you lose all these temporary hit points, or until you Channel Nature to Wild Shape. <br> ## Fungal Infestation *6th-level Circle of Spores feature.* Your spores gain the ability to infest a corpse and animate it. If a beast, monstrosity, giant, dragon, or humanoid that is Small or Medium dies within 10ft of you, you can use your reaction to animate it, causing it to stand up immediately with a number of hit points equal to four times the deceased creature's challenge rating (rounded up). If the creature had a challenge rating of 1 or less it uses the [[Circle of Spores#Lesser Mycotic Shambler|Lesser Mycotic Shambler]] stat block, otherwise it uses the [[Circle of Spores#Mycotic Shambler|Mycotic Shambler]] statblock; both statblocks are detailed [[Circle of Spores#Shambler Stat Blocks|below]]. It remains animate for a number of hours equal to half your proficency bonus (rounded up), after which time it collapses and dies. In combat, any shamblers you have animated take their turn with yours and follow your mental commands. You can freely command them to move however you wish. As a bonus action you can command any number of shamblers to attack a creature of your choice each making a *Slam* attack. They only capable of following your commands, unable to think on their own or relay information to you. > Some GMs may allow you to make more use of your shamblers than the move attack action but it is intended that without permission they are only capable of those two actions. You can use this feature a number of times equal to your Wisdom modifier (minimum of once), and you regain all expended uses of it when you finish a long rest. As you gain levels in druid your ability to infest corpses grows, allowing you to take hold of larger creatures. At 8th, 12th, and 16th level the maximum size you can reanimate improves. As a bonus action while your Symbiotic Entity feature is active, you can hurl spores up to 30 feet away, where they swirl in a 10-foot cube for 1 minute. The spores disappear early if you use this feature again, if you dismiss them as a bonus action, or if your Symbiotic Entity feature is no longer active. Whenever a creature moves into the cube or starts its turn there, that creature takes your Halo of Spores damage, unless the creature succeeds on a Constitution saving throw against your spell save DC. A creature can take this damage no more than once per turn.
