*For some, there is only rage. In the ways of their people, in the fury of their passion, in the howl of battle, conflict is all these brutal souls know. Savages, hired muscle, masters of vicious martial techniques, they are not soldiers or professional warriors—they are the battle possessed, creatures of slaughter and spirits of war. Known as barbarians, these warmongers know little of training, preparation, or the rules of warfare; for them, only the moment exists, with the foes that stand before them and the knowledge that the next moment might hold their death. They possess a sixth sense in regard to danger and the endurance to weather all that might entail. These brutal warriors might rise from all walks of life, both civilized and savage, though whole societies embracing such philosophies roam the wild places of the world. Within barbarians storms the primal spirit of battle, and woe to those who face their rage.* ![[Pasted image 20241226130405.png]] **Role:** Barbarians excel in combat, possessing the martial prowess and fortitude to take on foes seemingly far superior to themselves. With rage granting them boldness and daring beyond that of most other warriors, barbarians charge furiously into battle and ruin all who would stand in their way. **Unleashed**: Concepts of the Unchained Barbarian have been taken forward and further tweaked. Rage has been provided further nuance and an additional resource pool introduced to help the game play loop of the class. Rage still grants temporary hit points and static bonuses, but now also affects specific skills and further reduces rage cycling. Rage powers have also been tweaked to better capture the spirit of the chained/unchained variants. **Alignment**: Any non-lawful **Hit Die:** d12. **Starting Wealth:** 3d6 × 10 gp (average 105gp.) At 1st level, a barbarian can [rage](https://www.d20pfsrd.com/classes/unchained-classes/Barbarian-unchained/#TOC-Rage-Ex-) for a number of rounds per day equal to 4 + her [Constitution](https://www.d20pfsrd.com/basics-ability-scores/ability-scores#TOC-Constitution-Con-) modifier. For each level after 1st she possesses, the barbarian can [rage](https://www.d20pfsrd.com/classes/unchained-classes/Barbarian-unchained/#TOC-Rage-Ex-) for 2 additional rounds per day. Temporary increases to [Constitution](https://www.d20pfsrd.com/basics-ability-scores/ability-scores#TOC-Constitution-Con-), such as that gained from [bear’s endurance](https://www.d20pfsrd.com/magic/all-spells/b/bear-s-endurance), do not increase the total number of rounds that a barbarian can [rage](https://www.d20pfsrd.com/classes/unchained-classes/Barbarian-unchained/#TOC-Rage-Ex-) per day. A barbarian can enter a [rage](https://www.d20pfsrd.com/classes/unchained-classes/Barbarian-unchained/#TOC-Rage-Ex-) as a [free action](https://www.d20pfsrd.com/gamemastering/combat#TOC-Free-Actions). The total number of rounds of [rage](https://www.d20pfsrd.com/classes/unchained-classes/Barbarian-unchained/#TOC-Rage-Ex-) per day is renewed after resting for 8 hours, although these hours need not be consecutive. While in a rage, a barbarian gains a +2 bonus on melee [attack rolls](https://www.d20pfsrd.com/gamemastering/combat#TOC-Attack-Roll), melee damage rolls, thrown weapon damage rolls, [Will](https://www.d20pfsrd.com/gamemastering/combat#TOC-Will) saving throws, Strength checks and skill checks involving Strength. In addition, she takes a –2 penalty to [Armor Class](https://www.d20pfsrd.com/gamemastering/combat#TOC-Armor-Class). She also gains 2 [temporary hit points](https://www.d20pfsrd.com/gamemastering/combat#TOC-Temporary-Hit-Points) per [Hit Die](https://www.d20pfsrd.com/basics-ability-scores/glossary#TOC-Hit-Dice-HD-). These [temporary hit points](https://www.d20pfsrd.com/gamemastering/combat#TOC-Temporary-Hit-Points) are lost first when a character takes damage, disappear when the [rage](https://www.d20pfsrd.com/classes/unchained-classes/Barbarian-unchained/#TOC-Rage-Ex-) ends, and are not replenished if the barbarian enters a [rage](https://www.d20pfsrd.com/classes/unchained-classes/Barbarian-unchained/#TOC-Rage-Ex-) again within 1 minute of her previous [rage](https://www.d20pfsrd.com/classes/unchained-classes/Barbarian-unchained/#TOC-Rage-Ex-). While in a [rage](https://www.d20pfsrd.com/classes/unchained-classes/Barbarian-unchained/#TOC-Rage-Ex-), a barbarian cannot use any [Charisma](https://www.d20pfsrd.com/basics-ability-scores/ability-scores#TOC-Charisma-Cha-)-, [Dexterity](https://www.d20pfsrd.com/basics-ability-scores/ability-scores#TOC-Dexterity-Dex-)-, or [Intelligence](https://www.d20pfsrd.com/basics-ability-scores/ability-scores#TOC-Intelligence-Int-)-based skill (except [Acrobatics](https://www.d20pfsrd.com/skills/acrobatics), [Fly](https://www.d20pfsrd.com/skills/fly), [Intimidate](https://www.d20pfsrd.com/skills/intimidate), and [Ride](https://www.d20pfsrd.com/skills/ride)) or any ability that requires patience or [concentration](https://www.d20pfsrd.com/magic#TOC-Concentration) (such as spellcasting). Patience is defined as the following: - Take 10/20 on a skill - Traditional Spellcasting - Actions which require planning or complicated thought. A barbarian can end her [rage](https://www.d20pfsrd.com/classes/unchained-classes/Barbarian-unchained/#TOC-Rage-Ex-) as a [free action](https://www.d20pfsrd.com/gamemastering/combat#TOC-Free-Actions), and is [fatigued](https://www.d20pfsrd.com/gamemastering/conditions#TOC-Fatigued) for a number of rounds equal to 2 times the number of rounds spent in the rage. A barbarian can’t enter a new rage while [fatigued](https://www.d20pfsrd.com/gamemastering/conditions#TOC-Fatigued) or [exhausted](https://www.d20pfsrd.com/gamemastering/conditions#TOC-Exhausted), but can otherwise enter a rage multiple times per day. A barbarian is limited to a single rage per a combat or a minute whichever comes first. If a barbarian falls [unconscious](https://www.d20pfsrd.com/gamemastering/conditions#TOC-Unconscious), her rage immediately ends. ==DM NOTES == Rage has been adjusted in the following ways: - Modified unchained rage to also include a skill bonus and adjusted rounds of fatigue. - Multi-rage use has been limited to prevent rage cycling - Patience has been further defined to help players understand the limits of raging characters. #### Rage Pool A barbarian has a limited resource to use with specific rage powers. At 1st level, a barbarian has 2 + her Wisdom modifier rage pool points. For each level after 1st she possesses, the barbarian gains one additional rage pool point. The rage pool points per day is renewed after resting for 8 hours, although these hours need not be consecutive. Uses of a barbarians rage pool include: - Unchained rage powers (detailed below in Rage Powers) - Extending rage, two pool points = one round of rage - Eliminate fatigue for three pool points as a full round action ==DM NOTES == Rage pool is an effort to help modify the usability of unchained rage powers and make them more meaningful. Additionally, it gives the barbarian a unique resource separate to the Bloodrager to help differentiate the two and provide access to unique rage powers. #### Rage Powers As a barbarian gains levels, she learns to use her [rage](https://www.d20pfsrd.com/classes/unchained-classes/Barbarian-unchained/#TOC-Rage-Ex-) in new ways. At 2nd level and every 2 levels thereafter, the barbarian gains a [rage power](https://www.d20pfsrd.com/classes/unchained-classes/Barbarian-unchained/#TOC-Rage-Powers). A barbarian gains the benefits of [rage powers](https://www.d20pfsrd.com/classes/unchained-classes/Barbarian-unchained/#TOC-Rage-Powers) only while [raging](https://www.d20pfsrd.com/classes/unchained-classes/Barbarian-unchained/#TOC-Rage-Ex-). Some of these powers are always active during a rage, and others require the barbarian to take an action to use them. Unchained rage powers have been adjusted: - Where an ability calls out "This ability can be used only once per day." replace with the following "This ability can be used at the expense of a rage pool points. The amount of points are dictated by the level the ability was gained dived by two and rounded up." All powers have been adjusted in the following: - Natural Attacks - A barbarian cannot use more natural attacks in a round then the maximum attacks dictated by their BAB +1. ==DM NOTES== - Unchained daily powers have been provided a scaling cost as a short term fix to help balance late game power while adding flexibility. - Natural weapon accessibility combined with feats/archetypes/races can lead to issues of design and balance problems. ==TO BE DONE== - Rage power rewrite - Tweak natural weapon availability across all classes
