## A Study of Psilocybin for Major Depressive Disorder (MDD)[^1] > Eighty participants, ages 21 to 65, who meet Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM-5) criteria for major depressive disorder (MDD) will be stratified by study site and randomized with a 1-to-1 allocation under double-blind conditions to receive a single 25 mg oral dose of psilocybin or a single 100 mg oral dose of niacin. Niacin will serve as an active placebo. ## University of California San Francisco[^2] ### Randomized Clinical Trial of Psilocybin for Depression (Usona Institute) ### Safety and Efficacy of Psilocybin Treatment for Depression in Bipolar 2 Disorder ### A Mixed-Methods Study of Psilocybin Use Among Adults with Bipolar Affective Disorder ### Psilocybin Therapy for Depression and Anxiety in Parkinson’s Disease: A Pilot Study ### Effects of Psilocybin Therapy on Sleep and Thermoregulation ### Elucidating the Mechanisms of Psilocybin’s Antidepressant Effects ### Randomized Clinical Trial of Psilocybin for Chronic Low Back Pain ## Yale Psychedelic Science Group ### Psilocybin induces rapid and persistent growth of dendritic spines in frontal cortex in vivo[^3] > The psychedelic drug psilocybin, a naturally occurring compound found in some mushrooms, has been studied as a potential treatment for depression for years. But exactly how it works in the brain and how long beneficial results might last is still unclear. > In a new study, Yale researchers show that a single dose of psilocybin given to mice prompted an immediate and long-lasting increase in connections between neurons. The findings are published July 5 in the journal Neuron.[^4] > “We not only saw a 10% increase in the number of neuronal connections, but also they were on average about 10% larger, so the connections were stronger as well,” said Yale’s [Alex Kwan](https://medicine.yale.edu/profile/alex_kwan/), associate professor of psychiatry and of neuroscience and senior author of the paper. ### The Yale Manual for Psilocybin-Assisted Therapy of Depression (using Acceptance and Commitment Therapy as a Therapeutic Frame) ![[Yale Psilo Dep Manual_final w DOI-2020-08-25T20_08_09.400Z.pdf]] via https://psyarxiv.com/u6v9y ## News Search - https://hn.algolia.com/?q=psilocybin [^1]: https://clinicaltrials.gov/ct2/show/NCT03866174 [^2]: https://psychedelics.ucsf.edu/studies [^3]: https://www.cell.com/neuron/fulltext/S0896-6273(21)00423-2 [^4]: https://news.yale.edu/2021/07/05/psychedelic-spurs-growth-neural-connections-lost-depression
