## Why is this important?
It's super important to become more aware of what's grabbing my attention and ruining my life this way. The more I am aware of the examples, mechanism and impact, the more I can stay clear of them.
And the more I can avoid these sudden, hard dopamine hits, the more interesting and rewarding [[High-Value, Low-Dopamine Activities]] become.
## What is exciting about it?
The problem is: They're all INCREDIBLY exciting by nature. That's what they do. They EXCITE. They're the epitome of excitement. These things are DESIGNED to trigger Dopamine release.
They're basically an insanely addictive, perfectly-designed [[Variable-Reward Slot-Machine Mechanism]]:
- Scrolling through Reddit
- Scrolling through Instagram
- Scrolling through Youtube
- Scrolling through Internet Porn
- Scrolling through News of any kind
- Sugar – Instant high
- Coffee – Delayed high
- Cigarettes – Instant high
## What sucks about it?
Everything because they're the epitome of wasting my time. I used to LOVE reading but after spending years getting dopamine hits on the internet (see above), I can't even sit down to read for half an hour.
It's even fucking worse as someone with [[Adult ADHD]] becaus I already have a lower capacity for releasing dopamine. Which means I'm even more succeptible to this kind of addiction because I'm neuro-genetically low on dopamine. Hence anything that will trigger a spike is already better than nothing. The threshold for repeat-action is very high.
## What is this related to?
This is the opposite of [[High-Value, Low-Dopamine Activities]] and the goal to free yourself with [[Dopamine Fast]]ing.
