## What is this about?
- The weird effect of seeing a faint star better at night if you look slightly next to it
- When you focus something directly, you’re using photocells in your eyes that are very good at discerning colors but not so good at light/dark
- When you look next to the star, the star itself is registered on different photocells in your eyes, those that are better at light/dark (black/white) than colors
- Hence, you see the star brighter (but with less colors)
## Why does this matter to ME?
- Because… this came up while writing [[My Future Diary August 2022]] where I realized that looking slightly ahead helps me see the time I’m thinking of better: ![[Future Journaling 2022-07-04 11.21.28.excalidraw]]
