In her talk Chimanda talks about her experience growing up with only British American literature. As a result, despite living in Nigeria she wrote stories resembling of the literature of the West. She was given a single story. It was only when she started reading African literature she realized how misguided she had been. It's single stories that lead people to see Africa as a lace only of AIDS and poor people. Of India as a "country." The information we consume shapes our world view. That's why it's so important to differentiate your information diet. If you don't consume others stories, you can easily fall for ideology and dogma.
