Hello learners! In the last lesson, you learned how to find great reading books. In this lesson, we will dive into the benefits and drawbacks of taking linked notes from each book format, whether e-book, physical, or audible. This way you can determine which book format to read for your chosen book in the rest of the course. ## 📚The Three Book Formats: 1. **Physical Books:** The OGs, the classic Mario of the reading world. 2. **E-book:** Think of this as your Link from Zelda. Always prepared, always reliable. 3. **Audible:** The multi-tasking Sims character, juggling work, fun, and distractions. ## Benefits And Drawbacks To Each Format: Now I'm going to dive into each of these formats and give a Koala rating out of 5 in terms of Cost, Readability, Notetaking, Aesthetic/Fun Factor, and Durability. Why Koalas? Because I can lol... ### 1. Physical Books: - **Benefits:** Holding a physical book is like holding a vintage game cartridge. There's a nostalgia, a tangible feel, and a sense of progression as you flip pages. Research has shown there is memory benefits that come from writing down your annotations with your hands. - **Drawbacks:** They're like carrying around a GameCube without a handle. Bulky, and if you want options, you're gonna need a bigger backpack. Plus, no backlight means no midnight reading without a trusty nightlight. It's also harder to get your highlights and annotations into a notetaking app. - **Koala Rating:** Cost (3/5), Readability (2/5), Note-taking (2/5), Aesthetic Fun Factor (5/5), Durability (2.5/5) ### 2. E-Book: - **Benefits:** Thousands of books at your fingertips, easy notetaking, and no distractions. You can sync your Kindle highlights and annotations with Readwise so they automatically get sent to your notetaking app of choice. You can type your annotations, which is generally faster than writing them by hand. It's easy to read at night. - **Drawbacks:** While it's efficient, it lacks the aesthetic charm of a physical book. It doesn't have that PIZAZZ! - **Koala Rating:** Cost (4/5), Readability (5/5), Note-taking (4/5), Aesthetic Fun Factor (2/5), Durability (5/5). ### 3. Audible: - **Benefits:** You can listen to books while on the run or doing other tasks. Plus, voice actors in Audible bring stories to life like a well-animated RPG. - **Drawbacks:** Distractions galore! And it's harder to take notes on because you don't have the book right in front of you. - **Koala Rating:** Cost (1/5), Readability (3-5/5), Note-taking (5/5), Aesthetic Fun Factor (2/5), Durability (5/5). ### How I Choose Which Book Format To Read From: Here are the occasions I read from each format: - Physical: I always get the best books I have read in physical format to put them in my personal library. In addition, I will always buy a book physically if I want to gift it to someone. But because of the difficulty in getting highlights into notetaking apps, I generally stick more to e-books (however, I'll show you how to get highlights and annotations into your notetaking apps later if you really like physically reading) - E-book: The most common format I read books in. Most of the books I read are on my phone using the Kindle app or with my Kindle. The automatic syncing is just too good to pass up. - Audible: I often test out books by listening to a summary or reading a sample on audible. That's because I can listen in many more circumstances than I can read. I especially love reading fiction books on Audible because of the voice acting. ## Action Items ![](https://embed.filekitcdn.com/e/ipyk1kAZUAWQreQYS6UoFE/9sJ5rRzrt5h7ykMavk6Nub) If you didn't already, get the book you are applying this courses learnings to in whatever format resonates most with you from up above.
