up:: [[Cognitive dissonance theory]] Tags:: #🌱 # The three pieces of evidence for cognitive dissonance theory ### [[Post decision dissonance reduction]] According to [[Cognitive dissonance theory]] after making a decision we tend to try and find ways to reduce the dissonance of that decision. This often comes in the form of straight up just liking the thing we decided on more but it could also come in the form of monetary value, confidence, etc. This reminds me of the [[Sunk-cost fallacy]] and the [[Endowment effect]]. ### Effort justification [[The more effort or time you throw into something, the more you are pushed to justify it]]. This reminds me of the [[Sunk-cost fallacy]]. This is how frats get you to stay with them. People who grow through hazing feel they must justify their effort by staying. ^c9da8a ### [[Induced compliance]] The effect of eliciting compliance with no or minimal pressure. The idea is if we comply with something that we don't actually want to do and we don't have sufficient justification for doing it, we feel the need to justify our action through making it seem better than it was. This is very important to understand because [[We tend to underestimate how difficult it is for someone to say no to a compliance request]]. This means people can non maliciously or maliciously get people to comply to make them feel cognitive dissonance. Related: ___ # Resources
