This was shown through a study in which kids were put in a room full of toys. In one condition, the kids were mildly threatened against playing with the toys. In the other condition kids were highly threatened. The kids in the high threat condition were more likely to play with the forbidden toy 6 weeks later compared to those in the mild condition. The theory for why is because of [[Cognitive dissonance theory]] which suggests that those in the mild threat condition felt the need to justify not playing with the joy and the mild threat didn't provide sufficient justification. So they were less likely to play with it later on. Related: ___ # Resources [Forbidden Toy Experiment](https://ebrary.net/3075/management/forbidden_experiment)
