# No-self in Buddhism
The Buddhists believed the notion of having a true self like is promoted in Hinduism through the No Self was wrong.
**They saw the self as a verb rather than a noun.**
That’s because the self is constantly in flux. Dependent upon your memories, imaginations, and your present experience.
To them the self was like a chariot. A chariot is a name we give to define the set of features that comprise a chariot, a apple, pole, yoke, etc. similarly the self is a name we give a person to comprise the features of head, brain, arms, mind, etc. but there is no one essence that defines the self.
**Suffering comes from attachment with the self which is impermanent.**
Dis attachment with the self is fundamental to reaching nirvana.
