What is [[Ontogeny]] :: the process by which an individual changes over the course of their lifespan. <!--SR:!2022-09-05,7,230--> The basic goal of behavioral neuroscience is to explain behavior in terms of ==physiological== processes, particularly those of the the ==nervous== system. The findings of basic research in behavioral neuroscience may be applied to improving the lives of both humans and ==animals==. <!--SR:!2022-08-31,2,230!2022-09-08,10,250!2022-09-16,18,270--> Behavioral neuroscientists use what three approaches to understand the relationship between brain and behavior :: [[somatic interventionism]], behavioral intervention, and correlation. <!--SR:!2022-08-30,1,226--> ![[Pasted image 20220824080424.png]] Behavioral processes can shape the actual structure of the brain which is possible because of [[Neuroplasticity]]. ### History of Neuroscience research People long believed that mental capacities came from the heart. When the brain was discovered to be the center of [[consciousness]], many believed in a concept of [[Cartesian Dualism]] which touted that humans had a nonmaterial soul as well as a material body. For a long time people believed the brains feeling causing capacities were separated into different sections of the brain. One of these notions was [[phrenology]]. We still see lots of these notions continue to exist even today with many people believing in left and right brain anatomy.
