That's because of hedonic adaptation, the tendency for humans to return to a happiness set point after positive or negative changes in their life. Read my newsletter on how to fight it here: https://www.aidanhelfant.com/aidans-infinite-play-34-why-youre-never-satisfied-in-college-hedonic-adaptation/ Every human has a happiness set point that we revert back to after positive or negative changes in our lives. Luckily, there are ways that we can influence our set point to be higher. Read my newsletter on how to do so here: https://www.aidanhelfant.com/aidans-infinite-play-34-why-youre-never-satisfied-in-college-hedonic-adaptation/ Desire is a much stronger motivator than possession in college. Our ancestors that desired more, even after possessing something were more likely to survive. If we were satisfied with just possessing, we would never have hunted for excess food to prepare for the winter. Read my newsletter exploring this idea here: https://www.aidanhelfant.com/aidans-infinite-play-34-why-youre-never-satisfied-in-college-hedonic-adaptation/ We are evolutionarily hardwired to crave novelty because novel things are things we can learn from. But unfortunately, hedonic adaptation makes novel things, over time, normal, making it harder to enjoy them. Read my newsletter on how to fight this here: https://www.aidanhelfant.com/aidans-infinite-play-34-why-youre-never-satisfied-in-college-hedonic-adaptation/ Do a hedonic reset in college. A hedonic reset is a period where you take a break from a high dopamine-stimulating activity so that when you return to it, you can enjoy it again.
